WIN’s Professional Development Options
For Day-Long Workshops
WIN customizes all professional development workshops to meet the needs of the teachers in each district/school with whom we work. Following are workshop suggestions.
Reading, Researching, and Thinking Like a Writer: Implementing the ELA Standards: Using instructional materials developed by WIN consultants, teachers participate in activities that integrate reading, writing, and research skills. Emphasis is placed on showing teachers how to use what they already have (e.g., textbooks, classroom libraries, the Internet) to develop their own instructional and classroom assessment materials.
For these day-long workshops, teachers are grouped according to grade bands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and E1-E4.
Using Assessment to Inform Instruction: WIN consultants help teachers gain a better understanding of how to use the SCDE’s revised 15-point scoring rubric as a diagnostic tool for determining students’ strengths and weaknesses prior to instruction. (NOTE: For teachers of grades 1-2, the SCDE’s rubrics for grade 1 and grade 2 are used.) Emphasis is placed on scoring consistency that aligns to the rigor of the SCDE’s application of the rubric. Teachers use pre-scored, annotated student responses and participate in activities demonstrating instructional strategies that align to students’ weaknesses.
For these day-long workshops, teachers are grouped according to grade bands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and E1-E4.
